PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This residence was designed for a family of four, with a large focus on maximising natural light into the living spaces. The two storey house features a double height void facing north, with large openings that allow the warming winter light to penetrate the open plan design.

With young kids, the design intention was to provide a space for family activity and visual connection from all points within the house, allowing the parents to keep a close watch of the little ones - whether it be inside the house or out in the backyard.

The design intends to facilitate the growing needs of the kids, allowing privacy and individual activity within the house as they grow up. The ‘play’ room is an extension of the living room with a bi-folding concertina wall that allows the space to be divided off when guests are present. Once the kids grow older, this space will become a spare room/music room and study, with the kids ‘moving’ into the upstairs media room.

The large sliding doors can be opened up to the backyard, extending the living-dining-kitchen to the back garden.
