Cottesloe Beach Shade Structure for Space Agency Architects

The client required a digital model in order to simulate a folding shade structure that is developed from a flat rectangular plane. Upon folding, the perimeter facets were required to remain a fixed length, with the form being determined by interactively moving the nodes or 'points' in the XYZ coordinates.

The simulation model was based off this paper model. The need for the model was to be able to accurately determine the z height for each of the nodes at any one time, as well as having a digital model that could be sent to the engineer.

The digital model was sent to the engineer who was then able to provide feedback on the outcomes of the simulation
